17 JUNE 2025, RICHMOND, BC. Last 14 June 2025 Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin raised the PH flag at Richmond City Hall as part of the Independence Day celebration organized by the City of Richmond and the Richmond 55+ers Wellness and Fitness Society. Also in attendance were government officials from various levels of government, including Richmond mayor Malcolm Brodie and his councillors; MLAs Mable Elmore, Teresa Wat, and Kelly Greene, and; MPs Parm Bains and Chak Au.
In her remarks, Consul General Jamoralin drew parallels from her experiences raising the PH flag as a young student and doing the same as the Consul General, stating that regardless of one’s stage in life, raising the flag is to be treated as an honor and a privilege.
In his remarks, Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie also proclaimed June as Filipino Heritage Month in the city. He also remarked that Richmond has been doing a PH flag raising ceremony annually for the last 11 years, marking the importance that the city places on its Filipino constituents.
The City of Richmond in BC is home to thousands of persons of Filipino origin. In the 2021 Canadian census, the second most frequently reported ethnic or cultural origin was Filipino, representing 7.6% of the city’s total population. END
