14 January 2026, Vancouver B.C. - The Aklanon Sto. Niño Association in BC celebrated the 45th Annual Ati-Atihan Festival on 03 January 2026 at St. Patrick’s Gymnasium in Vancouver. The event was graced by Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin, herself an Aklanon.
In her speech, Consul General Jamoralin expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the organizers for their dedication to keeping the Ati-Atihan tradition alive. She emphasized that the festival serves as a symbol of unity, not only for Aklanons, but within the wider Filipino community in Vancouver. Despite being far from the Philippines, the event reminded the attendees of shared heritage and cultural roots, demonstrating that traditions continue to thrive wherever Filipinos may be.
The event opened with a buffet dinner, accompanied by some cultural performances from the Filipino community. The highlight of the celebration was the vibrant parade of participants wearing colorful costumes and traditional face paint, accompanied by energetic dance, performances and rhythmic music that captured the spirit of the world-famous Ati-Atihan Festival of Kalibo, Aklan.
Consul General Jamoralin took the opportunity to share three (3) important announcements to the 100-120 attendees, namely (a) the continuing registration of overseas voters until 30 September 2024 for the 2028 National Elections; (b) VERMAP (Vancouver Emergency Response Mapping Registry) Program of the Consulate; and (c) First Ever Online Town Hall Meeting with Filipino community leaders on 12 January 2025.
