VANCOUVER 10 October 2025 – Filipino-Canadian director Kent Donguines paid a courtesy call on Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin at the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver on 8 October 2025.
During the call, Mr. Donguines shared insights on the creation of his latest documentary, Treasure of the Rice Terraces, including their experiences while filming in the Philippines and the creative process that shaped the production. The film was screened at the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) on 6 October 2025 at the Granville Island Stage, where it received an enthusiastic reception and a four-minute standing ovation.
The Consul General congratulated Mr. Donguines on the success of the film, which highlights Filipino cultural heritage, particularly the revival of Indigenous Kalinga tattooing traditions under the guidance of the legendary master artist Apo Whang-od.
Both parties also discussed possible areas of future collaboration between Mr. Donguines and the Consulate to promote Philippine culture, heritage, and the creative arts in Canada.
The Consulate expressed its continuing support for Filipino-Canadian talents whose works bring Philippine stories and traditions to international audience. END
