PPCG Vancouver co-presents “Tulay at Gabay” with UPAABC

20 MAY 2025, VANCOUVER, BC. Last 10 May 2025, the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver attended Tulay at Gabay: Supporting Filipino Migrants Facing Uncertainty Amid Canada’s Shifting Immigration Landscape held at 312 Main Street, Vancouver, BC. The event was organized and presented by the University of the Philippine Alumni Association in British Columbia (UPAABC) in cooperation with PCG Vancouver.

Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin delivered the opening remarks for the event, emphasizing that the Philippine Foreign Service Posts in Canada are cognizant of the challenges being faced by Filipino migrant workers in Canada, particularly in light of the recent changes in Canada’s immigration policy. To illustrate this commitment, Consul General Jamoralin mentioned the ongoing work with Ottawa PE in advocating for the recognition of credentials of internationally-trained nurses in Canada, as well as PCG Vancouver’s upcoming Post Arrival Orientation Seminar in July 2025.

The topics for the morning session covered immigration policy changes, support resources pertaining to settlement and integration, as well as migrant workers’ rights under Canadian and BC employment law. Speakers in the morning session included representatives from Migrante BC / Canada, Vancouver Committee for Domestic Workers’ and Caregivers’ Rights, FilNet and the Northam Law group. The afternoon session organized the attendees in breakout groups to discuss challenges faced by the various categories of migrant workers present in the session.

The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver provides assistance-to-nationals services to all overseas Filipinos in British Columbia, Yukon, and Northwest Territories. It leads the Philippines’ One Country Team based in Vancouver and is supported by personnel from the Migrant Workers’ Office, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and Social Security System (SSS).
