PHILIPPINE NATIONAL FLAG DAYS MAY 28 – JUNE 12, 2025

The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver joins the nation in celebrating National Flag Days. Observed annually from May 28 to June 12, National Flag Days serve as a tribute to the Philippine flag and its role in the country’s struggle for independence.

The commemoration begins on May 28, the date of the Battle of Alapan in 1898—recognized as the first military victory of Filipino forces against Spanish troops following General Emilio Aguinaldo’s return from exile. It was during this battle that Filipino revolutionaries forced a Spanish surrender, leading Aguinaldo to unfurl the Philippine flag for the very first time at his headquarters in Cavite. This historic event laid the groundwork for the official declaration of Philippine independence just weeks later, on June 12, 1898.

The flag is a symbol of our sovereignty, unity, and identity as a people. By raising and displaying it, we honor those who fought for our freedom and reaffirm our commitment to the nation’s ideals. Its observance shows our patriotism and commitment to national unity and promoting a sense of national pride.
