Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver Joins UBC Kababayan’s Barrio Fiesta Gala Night

27 March 2023 – As part of the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver’s efforts to reach out and engage with the growing number of Filipino students in British Columbia, Consul General Arlene T. Magno and Consul Analyn Ratonel joined the Barrio Fiesta Gala Night of the UBC Kababayan at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver on 25 March 2023.

In her keynote remarks, Consul General Magno commended UBC Kababayan’s dynamic role in providing an inclusive community for students to explore and learn about the Philippines' rich culture and heritage. She also took this opportunity to encourage all qualified Filipino citizens who are not registered overseas voters and will be here in Canada for the 2025 National Elections to file their applications for registration in person at the Philippine Consulate. General also briefed them on programs and plans for the Filipino community in British Columbia (BC) and upcoming Consulate activities.

During the program, members of the UBC Kababayan rendered Original Pilipino Music, served Filipino cuisine, and distributed Pinoy catchphrase stickers.

Founded in 2007, UBC Kababayan or KABA is a student organization that strives to preserve and promote Filipino culture through a variety of school events and community engagement initiatives.  KABA is an affiliated student group of the University of British Columbia at the Vancouver campus.

According to the BC Council for International Education, the Philippines was among the top 10 source countries of international students for BC in 2021. END
