On this special night, the Canucks, a professional ice hockey team from Vancouver, British Columbia, honored the Filipino community in British Columbia who shared to thousands of Canucks fans the Filipino culture and heritage by performances of Filipino dancers, Filipino food and music performed during the game.
Philippine Consul General Gina Jamoralin graced the special occasion by meeting with leaders and members of the Filipino community, BC official, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Hon. Mable Elmore and Canucks Sports and Entertainment officials Ms. Alex Oxenham, Vice President for Community Relations and Ms. Gill Sorenson, Senior Manager for Community Relations.
To celebrate Filipino Heritage Night, the Canucks launched a new logo design created by Vancouver-based Filipino artist Karissa Narukami.
Prior to the official start of the game, a one-minute period of silence was observed by the organizers and the thousands of attendees in the audience, in memory of the victims of this year’s Lapu-Lapu Block Party tragedy.END
