19 June 2023 - The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver hosted a flag raising ceremony with the Filipino Community at the PCG lobby in Vancouver on 12 June 2023, in commemoration of the 125th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.
Consul General Magno welcomed around seventy-five guests to the occasion, which included members of the business community, academe and media, as well as leaders of the Filipino community in BC.
In her message to the community, the undersigned said that the theme for this year’s Philippine Independence Day celebration reminded us that we cannot think of the future without remembering our history and that our plans are shaped by the lessons of the past. The undersigned also took the opportunity to thank the guests for their support and hard work in helping raise the profile of the Filipinos in Canada, adding that the Filipino people are worth lifting up and fighting for.
The Independence Day video messages of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and DMW Secretary Susan “Toots” Ople were shown during the program. Consul Ericka Anna Abad read the message of Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo urging the public to “look to the future while cherishing the exceptional qualities that our ancestors exemplified.”
A Cariñosa dance was performed by Vancouver PCG’s very own dance troupe composed of Kervin Mon Perez, Imelda Cabansag, Neil Justin Nicholas and Mavi Dizon.
Savory dishes and desserts that showcased unique and delectable Philippine cuisine were served to the guests who enjoyed the fare. END
