ASEAN Consuls General in Vancouver Commemorate the 59th Anniversary of ASEAN

VANCOUVER 13 August 2026 - The ASEAN Consuls General in Vancouver (ACGV), representing Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, hosted an ASEAN Day Reception on 07 August 2026 at the UBC Liu Institute for Global Issues to celebrate the 59th Founding Anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The event brought together members of the diplomatic community, government officials, academics, and partners from across British Columbia.
As Chair of the ACGV for June to December 2026, Consul General Nattanipa Burusapat of Thailand welcomed guests and highlighted ASEAN’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation and build closer ties with partners in Canada. MLA Paul Choi and UBC Professor Emeritus Paul Evans also shared brief remarks recognizing ASEAN’s growing importance and the strong connections between Southeast Asia and British Columbia.
Guests enjoyed a variety of traditional dishes prepared by the ASEAN Consulates, showcasing the region’s diverse food culture. The program also featured the ACGV’s donation of ASEAN books to selected universities in Vancouver. END
