08 JUNE 2026, VANCOUVER, BC. Last 06 June 2026, Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin attended and delivered opening remarks at the UP Alumni Association of BC (UPAABC) and the Ateneo Alumni Association of BC (AAABC) at the Mount Pleasant Neighborhood House in Vancouver, BC. Also in attendance was MP Jake Sawatzky (New Westminster-Burnaby-Maillardville) who served as the event’s keynote speaker. In her remarks, Consul General Jamoralin congratulated the two alumni organizations for collaborating and expressed the Consulate’s appreciation in seeing BC-based Filipino organizations reaching out to each other to partner on projects that can benefit the larger Filipino community. She further encouraged Filipino community organizations to continue pursuing opportunities to collaborate on projects, as it allows them to increase the impact of such initiatives exponentially.

The undersigned emphasized in her remarks that while the changes in Canada’s immigration policy have created challenges, it also has created opportunities for alternate but equally viable career paths for foreign workers. In addition, the undersigned also highlighted how events such as BC Success 2026 complement Post’s activities to support the Filipino diaspora in its jurisdiction, such as Post-Arrival Orientation seminar that it mounts annually for Filipino temporary foreign workers (TFWs) and international students; the business seminar for Filipino-Canadian entrepreneurs that it organized last year which covered regulations on hiring workers, and; the business session that MWO-Vancouver held in partnership with the Filipino Canadian Chamber of Commerce - Greater Vancouver (FCC-GV) held last January 2026 that covered hiring standards and practices in BC. As part of its mandate to protect the rights and promote the interests of Filipinos overseas, the Philippine Consulate General continues to monitor policy developments in BC, YT, and NWT and evaluate their potential impacts to the Filipino communities in its jurisdiction. It also regularly organizes activities and partners with Filipino Community organizations on initiatives that serve the needs of Filipinos in its jurisdiction. END
