Province of Marinduque officials undertake official trip to Vancouver

Vancouver BC, 06 October 2025 - The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver welcomed Marinduque Governor Melecio Go, together with Provincial Board Members Mark Julius Caballes and Aurelio Leva III on 02 September 2025 at the Consulate at the sidelines of their official visit to Vancouver.

The courtesy visit  provided an opportunity for the Consulate and the provincial officials to explore possible ties between Marinduque and British Columbiathe such as Marinduque’s ongoing initiatives in tourism development, environmental protection, and local governance.  and explored potential collaborations with overseas Filipinos.

Consul General Jamoralin expressed the Consulate’s commitment to supporting the province’s initiatives and fostering deeper engagement with the Marinduqueños residing in Canada, particularly in areas of cultural promotion, investment opportunities, and community services.

Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin accompanied Governor Melecio Go, along with Board Members Mark Julius Caballes and Aurelio Leva III of the Province of Marinduque, during a courtesy call with Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and Deputy Speaker Mable Elmore at the latter’s office on 03 September 2025. The meeting provided an opportunity for the Provincial Government of Marinduque and MLA Elmore to exchange views on potential areas of collaboration between British Columbia and Marinduque, including liquefied natural gas, electricity, and education. MLA Elmore also shared her personal experiences in Marinduque and other Philippine cities as a Filipino-Canadian exploring her roots, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange and diaspora engagement. Governor Go reflected on the similarities and differences in political landscapes between the Philippines and Canada, and extended a warm invitation for MLA Elmore to visit Marinduque again, further strengthening ties between the province and the Filipino-Canadian community.

The Marinduque Association of British Columbia (MABC) hosted a luncheon at Burnaby Palace Restaurant in honor of Governor Melecio Go of Marinduque on 05 September 2025. Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin also attended the event. During the luncheon, Mr. Silvino “Benny” Luarca, President of the MABC, congratulated Governor Go on his recent election and welcomed him on behalf of the Filipino-Canadian community. Governor Go expressed his gratitude, commended the Association for its ongoing initiatives, and encouraged members to participate in Marinduque’s development programs. He also extended an invitation for the Association to visit the province to strengthen ties and promote collaboration. Consul General Jamoralin emphasized the importance of promoting Marinduque among Filipino-Canadians, particularly the 2nd and 3rd generation whose roots trace back to the province. She encouraged the Association to organize regular trips to Marinduque to foster cultural engagement. To support this, she distributed Winter Escapade 10 flyers, inviting members to join the tour and consider a side trip to Marinduque. The luncheon highlighted the strong relationship between Marinduque and the Filipino-Canadian community in British Columbia, reinforcing the shared commitment to cultural preservation, community engagement, and provincial development.
