29 September 2022 - In celebration of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) 2022, the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver joined the Filipino Fest held on 24 September 2022 at the Museum of Surrey.

The Consulate booth showcased tourism materials including pamphlets and brochures on the Philippines’ best destination sites --Palawan, Boracay, Cebu and Bohol.   The Consulate team distributed several copies of the book entitled ““Dive Philippines” by Tim Rock to raise archipelagic awareness and consciousness among Filipino-Canadian communities.  Filipino candies, chips and pastries were also given out to guests.

Photographic artworks on Philippine marine life by photographer Stewart Sy were also displayed at the Philippine booth.  Sy grew up in Manila and quickly found a love for the ocean with yearly vacations to the family beach house in Matabungkay.  In 1999, Sy started bringing Canadian divers and underwater photographers to experience the wonders of the Philippine underwater.  He has taken several hundred divers over the years to different parts of the country and is looking forward to his next adventure.

The Filipino Fest also featured vendors selling Filipino crafts and snacks. A storytelling session, in both English and Tagalog, was also conducted by Surrey Library personnel Trisha Sy and Tania Thomas. END
