VANCOUVER 03 September 2026 - Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin called on Whitehorse Mayor Kirk Cameron on 28 August 2026, recognizing the strong ties between the Philippines and the city’s vibrant and growing Filipino community. She thanked the Mayor for his continued support to programs that help Filipinos thrive in Whitehorse, including the Yukon Nominee Program, and highlighted shared commitments to responsible migration, community development, and cultural engagement. She also noted the celebration of Philippine Heritage Month across Canada each year in June and expressed hope that the Mayor would integrate this cultural celebration in future community events and cultural activities in the city. Whitehorse is the capital of the Yukon territory.
Both sides discussed opportunities for deeper cooperation, including educational linkages, student exchanges, and potential Sister-City partnership that could support cultural and academic collaboration. They also exchanged views on broader prospects in tourism, clean energy, and critical minerals under the Canada–Philippines Free Trade Agreement. The Consul General conveyed optimism for initiatives that would benefit both communities, including efforts to recognize international credentials for Philippinetrained healthcare workers and opportunities for dialogue with Philippine academics to share insights on cultural diversity and Philippine experiences.END
