13 June 2023 – Philippine Consul General Arlene T. Magno joined the ASEAN Consuls General in Vancouver (ACGV) in a study tour to Richmond, British Columbia organized by City of Richmond Councillor Chak Kwong Au on 08 June 2023. She was accompanied by Consul Analyn Ratonel.
The ASEAN Consuls General undertook this study tour to foster fresh connections and forge collaborative ties with the City of Richmond.
First stop was the Richmond Olympic Oval, an indoor multi-sports arena which was built for the 2010 Winter Olympics and was originally configured with a speed skating rink. The venue has since been reconfigured and now serves as a community multi-sport park. The group then visited the West Coast Naturals, a Canadian company that is dedicated to providing convenient and natural health supplements to help alleviate the symptoms of a wide variety of ailments. The owners led the group to its facility to show their equipment and products. The ASEAN diplomats proceeded to the India Cultural Center, a prominent religious institution on the renowned “Highway to Heaven.” The ACGV group then went to the Garden City Lands, which is the home to Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s urban farming research center. Lastly, the ASEAN delegation visited Trinity Western University (TWU) Richmond campus' Minoru location. TWU President Mark Husbands, Vice President of Innovation, Global and Academic Partnerships Phil Laird, and Executive Director of TWU Richmond Rebecca Swaim made presentations on the value of TWU’s unique student-focused education. Meanwhile, Ms. Jill Shirey, Manager of Richmond Economic Development Office, explained the diverse economic strengths and key sectors in Richmond City.
