09 January 2025, Vancouver BC. The internationally acclaimed Loboc Children’s Choir (LCC), led by Conductor and Musical Director, Ms. Alma Fernando-Taldo, graced the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver with a courtesy visit and a musical performance on 03 January 2025. Vancouver is the only Canadian stop in their three-month tour of the United States and Canada.

Consul General Gina Jamoralin warmly welcomed the choir and expressed appreciation for the choir’s efforts in elevating the cultural scene of Loboc and Bohol to the international stage with the children serving as cultural ambassadors and role models to countless aspiring young musicians as they promote Filipino music and culture through their heartfelt performances on the global stage.

The visit served as a prelude to the Choir’s highly anticipated two-day concert entitled On the Wings of Heritage (A Concert of Religious, Classical, Contemporary and Filipino Classics) held at the St. Monica Recreation Center in Richmond on 03 and 04 January 2025.

The musical concert, which captivated audiences with the Choir’s pure vocal harmonies and dance choreography, was divided into four (4) parts namely: 1. Western Classical and Religious Music where they performed “The Prayer” and “Light of a Million Mornings” 2. Contemporary Songs like the ever popular “Abba Medley”; 3. Filipiniana songs like the “Rosas Pandan” and “Manang Biday”; and concluding with 4.Christmas carols like “Kumukutikutitap” and “Pamaskong Pagdiriwang”.

The Loboc Children’s Choir was founded in 1980. It grew from the desire to field an entry during the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) which the Choir won in 1993, 1995 and 2001. Since then, the LCC has garnered acclaim on prestigious stages and music festivals around the globe.

Proceeds from the recently concluded concert in Vancouver will benefit the restoration of the historic pipe organ of St. Peter the Apostle’s Parish, which was built in the mid-19th century by the recollect Missionaries, in Loboc, Bohol. The LCC Vancouver concert was organized by the Bohol Foundation of British Columbia. END
