SURREY, BC. 08 September 2025 – The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver joined the annual Filipino Fest held at the Museum of Surrey on 06 September 2025. The family-friendly celebration once again brought together the community for a vibrant showcase of Filipino culture through traditional and modern music, dance, food, and heritage activities.
As part of its participation, the Philippine Consulate, represented by Consul Analyn Ratonel, Cultural Officer Remedios Domingo and Mr. Celso Magpile, set up an information booth to promote two key initiatives:
- Winter Escapade 2026 (Feb 1–10, 2026): A special 10th edition tour bringing participants to Manila, Dumaguete, Siquijor, and Bicol to experience the Philippines’ rich culture and natural beauty while supporting local communities.
- VERMAP (Vancouver Emergency Response Mapping Registry): The Consulate’s registry that allows Filipinos in British Columbia, Yukon Territory and Northwest Territories to be reached quickly in case of disasters and emergencies.
Museum of Surrey Manager Lynn Saffery, in his welcome remarks, underscored the importance of celebrating the diversity of cultures that make Surrey vibrant. Meanwhile, Ms. Narima Dela Cruz, President of the Surrey Philippine Independence Day Society (SPIDS) – the Museum’s partner organization for the event – expressed the community’s appreciation.
The event was also attended by Mayor Brenda Locke of Surrey, as well as several Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), who joined the community in celebrating Filipino culture and heritage. END
