12 November 2015 —The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver has formally opened a mini-exhibit on the life and times of President Elpidio R. Quirino, who served as the Sixth President of the Republic of the Philippines from April 1948 to December 1953, to commemorate his 125th birth anniversary.
Consul General Neil Frank R. Ferrer opened the mini-exhibit on 12 November 2015 during the oath-taking ceremonies of former Filipinos who reacquired their citizenship under RA 9225. In his remarks, the undersigned highlighted the legacy of President Quirino, especially his achievements in Philippine foreign relations and diplomacy, e.g., the passage of the Foreign Service Act in 1952; Philippine representation in the United Nations and other international bodies and institutions. Consul General Ferrer also shared President Quirino’s commitment and vision of abiding by the Rule of Law as the great equalizer, no matter the size and political power of any country.
The exhibit will run for two weeks, from 10 to 27 November 2015, to enable members of the Filipino-Canadian community to visit and learn about President Quirino’s contributions to Philippine society.
