Vancouver, 12 June 2015 -- Consul General Neil Frank R. Ferrer of the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver announced today that the 21st ASEAN Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, 24 July 2015 at the Swaneset Resort and Country Club, 16651 Rannie Road, Pitt Meadow, BC V3Y1Z1.
Since 1984, the Consulates General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) present in Vancouver, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, The Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam, have organized the ASEAN Gold Tournament for the benefit of charitable organizations. Over the years, more than C$205,000 have been raised and donated. In 2014, C$29,565 was raised, a significant portion of which was donated to the Cerebral Palsy Association of BC and the Society for Children and Youth BC.
This year, the Philippines, as Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 21st ASEAN Golf Tournament, has planned the tournament to be held in advance of the ASEAN Community Day scheduled on 8 August 2015. Set up to be a fun-filled and exciting sporting event with a charitable component, the Tournament also serves as an excellent opportunity to build and nurture friendships among members of the ASEAN Consulates General, and representatives from the business and philanthropy sectors, as well as other interested communities in Vancouver.
The tournament’s success in the past 30 years is largely due to the patronage of its loyal sponsors, the participation of keen golfers, and the active involvement of charitable organizations.
“We look forward to the support and generosity of our partners as we continue this three-decade old tradition of friendly relations and mutual cooperation among our ASEAN neighbors and Canada,” Consul General Ferrer said. “We hope that this year’s event will prove to be as successful as the last one, and allow us to raise more funds to help our partner-charities,” he added.
Companies and individuals can begin pledging their donations through golf sponsorships and prizes. Sponsorship form and players’ registration form can be accessed here. You may wish to send the forms by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by post. Cheque(s) payable to the “ASEAN Golf Tournament” should be mailed to the Consulate General of the Philippines, Suite 660, World Trade Centre office complex, 999 Canada Place, Vancouver, BC V6C 3E1.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a political and economic organization of ten Southeast Asian countries, namely, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam. The member countries have a combined population of approximately 625 million people, 8.8% of the world's population. In 2015, the organization's combined nominal GDP had grown to more than US$2.2 trillion. If ASEAN were a single entity, it would rank as the eighth largest economy in the world, behind the US, China, Japan, Germany, France, United Kingdom and India.
ASEAN is expected to form the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by end-2015 to establish a common market. The average economic growth of ASEAN's member nations during 1989–2009 was between 3.8% and 7%. This economic growth was greater than the average growth of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), which was 2.8%, which Canada is a member. With the expected free movement of skilled labor, goods, services and investment, ASEAN will rise globally as one market with each member gaining from each other's strengths, thus increasing its competitiveness and opportunities for development. ASEAN will officially declare the establishment of an ASEAN Economic Community by end-December 2015. END
